Our club was founded by Mr Ted Maplethorpe in 1990 when he turned 136 acres of his
family held farm into
what is now our course making it a challenging 6485 yards long.
The members bought out Ted in 1998 when he wanted to retire and since then many developments
have taken place and is continuing to do so at quite a pace. Course changes have
occurred most years since the take over culminating in impressive enhancements to
holes twelve, thirteen and fourteen and an increase in length to 6556 yards. New
fairway bunkers have been added to the first and fourth with a superb new raised
competition tee on the fourth.
The club has sections for all categories and certainly boasts one of the strongest
Senior and Rabbits sections in the county together with a constantly growing Ladies
section.
SKGC has an excellent social scene where you can bring your wife or partner and join
in and meet new friends at any of our varied selection of clubhouse events. There
are also Golfer and Non Golfer and Cross Country golfing events during the season
which can include your partner and family.
SKGC has a strong involvement with Juniors hosting a weekly Academy every Saturday
morning. Several members have now progressed so much over the years achieving single
figure handicaps and playing in the League teams. The club fields teams in all sections
playing both county league First and Seconds and friendlies throughout the season
Our Seniors and Rabbits play many matches throughout the year. Ladies and Juniors
have also have a full programme of inter club matches so that if you want to play
competitive golf then SKGC is the place to be. We also have a tremendous array of
other events for our members to compete in. There are opportunities throughout the
year for you to either put your name down in advance or just turn up and join in
and play .
Our club can proudly boast of being one of the friendliest clubs in the area. Many
golf societies choose to play regularly at South Kyme for this reason - not to mention
the high quality of the fairways and greens. We have an ongoing schedule of course
improvements, the latest being to the par 3 eighth. Whether you are an individual
or a member of a society you will always be made welcome and you are assured of a
great day of golf.
