PSI
system working well
The new
Player's Score Input system, that's the touch screen computer now
used in most competitions, has gone down well with members of all
categories. Provided for the club by our Rabbits
section, it has been in use for several weeks and even those
unfamiliar with computers have found it simple to use. Through its
use we now have a clubhouse leaderboard running and updated
throughout competitions as players come off the course. At the end of
a competition the results are forwarded to the 'How
did I do' website
which can be accessed at any time using the Comps
& H'caps link in the top menu
bar. Results can be viewed along with the respective player's new handicap.
Casino Night
|
Our first ever
James Bond themed Casino Night was a huge success for the club.
Attended by more than eighty people,
members and their guests played at Roulette or Blackjack tables
throughout the evening. As playing 'chips' were all inclusive
in the ticket price with no-one able to buy more, everyone had an
even chance to come away with one of three great prizes. |
|
The 'secret'
top prize, won by Roe Atkin was revealed as a 2 day cruise to France
for four people. |

Weds 9th April 2008
Work began
this week on the long awaited re-shaping of the 8th green. Those who
play South Kyme regularly will have noticed the new tee box. It has
now been turfed and will be ready for use in the Summer this year. A
horseshoe bank surounding the green has been built and is ready to be
grassed. The new, re-styled multi tier green will be completed
through the autumn months with minimal disruption to play.

|
Peter
Williams, the outgoing Captain of the South Kyme Golf Club Seniors
decided that the charity he was going to support was the Lincs -
Notts Air Ambulance. Throughout the year, he imposed fines on the
Senior Members for many different reasons including hitting the ball
into water hazards, using the telephone in the clubhouse etc. The
total amount raise during his year reached £2,500 -The
helicopter landed on the practice ground by the Clubhouse and the
members of the section were given a brief talk and tour of the
aircraft by Pilot George Phillips. |

Tree
Planting - March 2008
Members
of the club's Seniors Section help to plant hundreds of trees along
the southern (riverbank) side of the course.
740 trees of various types
including Wellingtonia (giant sequoia), Dawn Redwood, Blue Cedar,
Corsican Pine and a number of Maples including the fabulous Crimson
King have been planted over three days this week. Club members have
voluntarily supported this huge project with donations of a
considerable sum.

Vertidraining
Operation Complete!

Another course
maintenance task is now completed after all the key playing surfaces
have been treated to a good verti-drain. Fairways , Tees approaches
and surrounds have all been deep spiked to relieve compaction, assist
drainage and increase root development. This operation should
encourage strong grass growth and minimise bare lies.
Three
Birdies and
a Hole in One !!
Beat
That !

Danny Ellis,
Lloyd Bailey, Pete Chamberlain & Barry Skinner
Whilst playing
in a 4 ball on our 123 yard signature hole (14th)
the first player Danny Ellis put his tee shot close to the pin , the
second player Lloyd Bailey holed in one, The 3rd Pete
Chamberlain hit straight at the flag but finished about 30 ft
past. The final player Barry Skinner put his effort about 6ft from
the pin. Pete holed for a two , and the two remaining players did
likewise! An aggregate score of 7.
Drainage
proves to be a huge success.
January 2008
- heavy rainfall leaves many areas of the county flooded!
Recent drainage
work (see below) has been tested fully with the heavy January
rainfall and has made a real difference. So it is a big thank you and
well done to all the members who helped improve the playability of
the course.
In years gone
by we would have been closed with this amount of rain but the course
is still dry on the key areas. If your course is closed please
consider giving us a call to arrange your next game.
Drainage Project
On the fine
days of Monday and Tuesday 24 & 25th September brought out the
SKGC & Twells & Rabbits Drainage Project whereby a merry band
of volunteers drained areas of Holes standing areas and walkways on
two, seventh, ninth, twelfth and three sections across the third fairway.
This totalled
375 metres and was done in the record time of just two days and has
been a saving for the club of approximately £5000 against a contractor.
John Twells on
behalf of SKGC would like to thank Alec Dodman (for his help in
planning), Roy and Stuart Creasey for machinery, and Steve Bailey,
Barry Wilson, Paul Hocking (Chairman), Jules Palmer, Hugh Armstrong,
Ben Lord, Peter Smith, Andy Snoxall and Alan Jude for their sterling
work in getting what was a proper job done in record time, and
finally not forgetting our outgoing Chairman Richard Tholen for
driving 20 miles to our South Kyme and doing a hard days labour for
our club
See later for
Part Two the paths
project.

Pathway
Project
October 1st and
2nd with the Team Twells- Project paths began with great
weather at 7.45am on the Monday morning with the prospect of many
many shovels of stone to lay and roll to undertake standing areas and
pathways on Holes Two, Holes Nine, and standing areas on Holes Three
and Seven.
All went so
well that the team decided to carry on and join up the standing areas
on Holes Three and Seven and do pathways on Holes Twelve and Holes
four to well exceed our original plans. We still finished all of this
some 255 metres of pathways within the two-day windows as planned!
The Team
Rabbits led by Paul and Mick completed another sixty metres of their
plan to make a path from the sixth green onto the third and seventh tees.
Costs were
shared between The Rabbits and Twells of Billinghay so that the whole
project was completed in three days (two days ahead of schedule) and
at no cost whatsoever to SKGC.
John would like
to thank Roy and Stuart Creasey (JCB Men), George (machine) Phillips,
Steve (the Roll) Bailey, Barry (the rake) Wilson, Ben Lord and Hugh
Armstrong (Twells stalwarts) Peter Smith, Andy Snoxall (grounds men
extraordinary) Peter Bettis (Mr Reliable), and Tom Maplethorpe and
Chairman Paul Hocking who worked with such energy and far and above
what was expected of them, and who gave up their time and gained
blisters for that privilege!!

Thanks a
million guys we could not have done it without everyone of you!!
Revised
4th hole gets some Scottish bunkers!!
The spring
brought big changes on our course with the whole lot being turned
around and the 10th becoming the 1st and so on.
This Spring
also brought about the 1st and 2nd team " chain gang"
undertake task number two in their planned "Improve our
course" project.
The project was
designed by Director of Golf Peter Chamberlain and Development
Chairman Richard Trow. A merry band led by our Captain Dale Revell
includied Pete Allot, Paul Hocking, Steve Smithson, and many more of
SKGC 1st and 2nd teams together with Digger Danny Ellis being the
"Machine Man". These guys took it upon themselves to dig
out, sand and re-turf four new bunkers on the new 4th all over one
weekend, which has completely transformed this hole. These coupled
with a new White Tee which is now being prepared for Spring 2007 will
make this into one of SKGC's very best holes.
Many thanks
boys for your great work once again and keep it up for more future
developments when you can see fit to have another go!!

club snapper namely Peter Bettis....
